What happens during a Rev 5 session?

When you arrive, we take your blood pressure measurement, which we record each week. You will be the only person training in our quiet, relaxing, air conditioned fitness suite. In the space of around 45 minutes, we will coach you to complete five slow but intense exercises on our specialised fitness equipment. The exercise itself will take around 15 minutes only.

In a gym setting, without this specialised equipment or supervision, we unconsciously seek ways of making the exercise easier – we might use momentum as we push up a weight, or rest for a fraction of a second when we get to the top. Not here. The average amount of time you spend on each machine is around 2 minutes, but all of this is work. And it’s this level of intensity which leads to results way beyond a conventional weights session.

Once these are complete, all that’s left to do is to check your blood pressure again.

We’ll keep track of your weights and times as well as your blood pressure before and after exercise each week so you can monitor your progress.

How is Rev5 different from other forms of exercise?

Who is it for?

Rev5 is especially well suited to those who are short of time and struggle to fit exercise into their busy schedule, or don’t wish to spend hours in a gym.

Rev5 is suitable for any age, and doesn’t require a good level of fitness to begin. In fact, it’s especially well suited to people who haven’t exercised for a long time, people with metabolic imbalances, or those who don’t wish to visit a mainstream gym.

We also have a large number of clients who practise sports such as tennis, squash, cycling, golf, running, skiing and many others, sometimes competitively, and find that Rev5 helps improve their performance and reduce injury levels.

We recommend all of our clients request regular assessments by their GP to ensure that they are fit to work out safely.

Why is muscle strength so important?

Our muscle tissue underpins our health in many ways, beyond allowing us to move around – some of which you may not be aware of:

  1. Preventing age related muscle loss
    People who are physically inactive can lose as much as 5% of their muscle mass per decade after age 30. Even if you are active, you will still experience some muscle loss. Barely noticeable from year to year, but imagine over 3, 4 or 5 decades, what this amounts to!
    Getting out of a chair or walking up stairs can become real challenges, which limit someone’s ability to live life to the full.
    We all age eventually and it’s never too early or too late to start building up your strength.
  2. Global conditioning
    The strength of our muscles drives our aerobic health. Basically, our heart and all of the other ‘support systems’ in the body – organs like the lungs for example – will upgrade if our muscle mass requires it. If our muscle cells need more oxygen and nutrients, then the rest of our body will step up to that challenge, and become stronger in the process.
  3. So as our muscle strength improves, our organs follow suit.
  4. Blood sugars and metabolism
    Another unique advantage of Rev5 is the way it taps muscle fibres which ordinary exercise doesn’t even reach. This specific type of fibre holds most of the glycogen stores (an emergency store of glucose) and only this level of intensity really uses up this glycogen. This leaves a gap for the muscle to pull in more glucose from the blood. The depleted glycogen stores automatically increase the muscle cells’ sensitivity to glucose. This makes this form of exercise particularly beneficial for people with insulin resistance or pre-diabetes.
  5. In fact, it has been shown to increase glucose uptake by 23 percent after only four months.
Will I have to pay a joining fee?

Currently there is no joining fee. You can pay per session or book a fitness pack (several sessions in advance).

What should I wear?

You don’t have to wear any special gym clothing or sports shoes.

We just recommend that you wear comfortable everyday clothing, and shoes with no heels.

How long will it be before I experience results?

During your first session, we will get an idea for your current level of strength and will adjust the weights and timings accordingly. Most of our clients report feeling energized within 1 hour of exercising right from the first session. Thereafter, you will see a steady increase in your strength from your results on the machines. Within 3 sessions you should begin to notice the difference in everyday tasks and your posture will start to improve.

Our clients’ blood pressure – if high – generally begins to drop within their first 10 sessions.

How long should I continue for?

Just like eating well, exercise is not something you can store up once and for all. Maintaining our fitness levels is an ongoing task. The amazing aspect of Rev5 is that no matter what age you are, you can continue to increase your fitness levels and become much fitter than you were 20 years previously.

If for any reason your Rev5 workouts are interrupted for any longer than 3 weeks, your strength and fitness level will begin to decline gradually, as the body lets go of what is now deemed unnecessary muscle capacity.

After a few months of weekly sessions, as you reach your genetic optimum level, you can drop down to bi-weekly sessions to maintain the fitness level you’ve achieved.
